For the second screening of Lámpaoltás, we invite you to the unbridled, wilder fringes of sci-fi – straight to David Cronenberg’s dissection table. In the 1983 film *Videodrome*, the master – working at the intersection of body horror and sci-fi – puts the manipulative power of mass media under the microscope: a television channel proudly sacrifices the fundamental tenets of moral values on the altar of satisfying its viewers’ basest desires. This can only be topped by a pirate broadcast, which infects the mind—constantly hungry for fresh stimulation—like a virus. What video culture was then, the internet is today: with chilling insight, Cronenberg foresees that the extremes seen in pirated programmes are now accessible on a much wider scale and with child’s play ease in the age of the internet.
